Orange Cranberry Sauce

A simple homemade cranberry sauce for the season. This one is especially bright with fresh orange juice and zest. The perfect balance to all the rich holiday flavors.

prep time: 5 minutes
cook time: 20 minutes

servings: 8-10

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs fresh cranberries

  • 1 1/4 cup sugar

  • juice of 1/2 navel orange

  • zest from 1 navel orange

  • splash of water

Directions:

  1. In a large saucepan, empty the entire bag of cranberries. Pour just a splash of water and start it over medium high heat.

  2. Add in the sugar, orange juice and a pinch of orange zest. Stir until it just starts to boil.

  3. Lower the heat and stir until most of the cranberries have burst and the sauce thickens. Take it off the heat while there are still some cranberries intact.

  4. Garnish with some fresh orange zest. If you are chilling this before serving it, make sure to taste it once more, as cranberry sauce has a tendency to become more sour after it chills. Adjust accordingly. Enjoy!
